Our History
The Qualicum Beach Fire Department was originally founded in 1947. The Department was founded for the primary role of fire suppression. Members also assisted in the local ambulance service for medical services prior to the establishment of the provincial ambulance service in the area. The Department over the years has seen many changes to the community, including the greatly improved water system that increases fire flows and greater growth of the community.
Many
community business owners and the Town of Qualicum Beach have supported
the Department with their employees responding to emergencies from their
jobs. This is the current practice for many of the department's members.
Innovations in fire-apparatus design allowed the department in the early
nineties to begin to purchase apparatus with on board foam systems.
In the mid nineties the Qualicum Beach Fire Department saw the addition of automobile extrication services. The Department also has seen the addition of technical rescue and limited responses to hazardous materials. In 2006 the department saw the addition of the district's first honour guard drill team.
The department has seen significant changes since it's beginning and will continue to see many changes in the future. The department is proud of its history and service to the community, and as such has maintained its first new apparatus purchased in 1963. This parade apparatus is still used in parades and other community events.
