Services
Fire Suppression:
Qualicum Beach Fire Department provides primary fire suppression to the Town of Qualicum Beach and regional district areas under contract. In addition the department also assists other fire services in large-scale fire operations. Members of our department under go extensive initial recruit training and then move forward to achieving their Firefighter Level 1 & 2 from the Fire and Safety Division of the Provincial Fire Academy. Members also train in other disciples of fire suppression from interface fires to vehicle fires.
Medical Services:
The Qualicum Beach Fire Department also provides Emergency Medical services to the citizens of our community thru our First Responder Program. These services are done to provide an initial level of care for critical patients to assist the British Columbia Ambulance Service. All medical services are handled thru the operations division of the department. These members are certified to level #3 First Responder with Automatic External Defibrillator and spinal endorsements.
Motor Vehicle Accidents & Extrication:
The
Qualicum Beach Fire Department trains all members in Automobile
Extrication Skills. These skills are called upon at times in
adverse conditions, hazardous environments and precarious positions.
Members regularly attend training seminars and workshops to
keep up with changes of new automobile design. The Qualicum
Beach Fire Department is responsible for all motor vehicle accidents
inside the protection boundaries and assist other fire services
in their rescue needs.
Technical Rescue:
Technical Rescue in the Qualicum Beach Fire Department involves Confined Space Rescue, Urban Heavy Rescue and High Angle Rope Rescue. Members under go many hours of basic skills, then participate in ongoing skill maintenance. Urban Heavy rescue is done as a partnership with the Town of Qualicum Beach Public Works. The Department utilizes the Justice Institute, Pierce County and ROCCO Canada for its training needs. These technical rescue team services are also offered to other District Wide fire departments for their Rescue needs
Hazardous Material:
Qualicum Beach Fire Rescue responds as a lead agency to all hazardous material spills in our protection area. These responses are handled at an operations level. If further technical resources or abilities are required the Ministry of Environment and Provincial Emergency Program are called upon. The department trains its members by the Justice Institute to their operations level (NFPA 472). Members will also receive ongoing training thru regular scenarios and monthly drills.
Airport Fire Rescue
The Town of Qualicum Beach also maintains its own local Airport. The Qualicum Beach Fire Department has the responsibility of all fire and rescue duties associated with buildings and aircraft, which may or may not be in the Airport. Members are also trained in basic Airport Operations to ensure safety while operating inside the Airport.
